These sixteen drawings show Modiglianiís progression towards and realisation of his unique artistic voice. They come from the collection of Paul Alexandre (Modiglianiís first patron) to whom they were given by Modigliani. Each is stamped with the Paul Alexandre collection mark.

Each drawing is reproduced in The Unknown Modigliani, the major monograph on the artistís pre-1914 drawings, by NoŽl Alexandre (Paulís youngest son) dedicated To my friend Richard Nathanson whose enthusiasm and artistic sensitivity have encouraged me to publish this account.
