Woman with a Dog, her head tilted, hair piled high, gently sloping shoulders and sweetness of expression, recalls Modigliani’s loving 1918 portrait of Jeanne Hebuterne below.
That this rare sheet should contain two such tender and sensitive drawings which are so different; and that each should be so prescient of Modigliani’s future work seems destined to remain a mystery.
